Privacy Policy

MarginShield (“we”, “our”, “the app”) is a Shopify application that calculates order-level profit and product margin for merchants. This policy explains what data the app accesses, how it is used, and how it is protected. MarginShield is designed to be privacy-preserving: it does not collect, store, or process customer personal information.

This policy applies to Shopify merchants who install MarginShield on their store. It describes how MarginShield handles the store and order data it needs to calculate profit.

When you install MarginShield, Shopify grants the app a limited set of permissions (scopes):

• read_orders — to read order totals, line items, discounts, and shipping charges for profit calculation.
• read_products / write_products — to read product and variant details and update product cost where you choose to.
• read_inventory / write_inventory — to read each variant's unit cost (COGS) and write a cost you enter in the app back to Shopify.
• read_discounts — to attribute profit impact to discount codes.

We request the minimum scopes required for the app to function.

MarginShield does not collect or store customer personal information. Our order webhooks are configured with field filters that strip the customer object, email address, phone number, billing address, shipping address, IP address, and browser details from every payload before it reaches our servers. We only retain order financial figures (prices, discounts, shipping amounts, line items, and product costs) needed to compute profit. We do not sell or share any data with third parties.

For each order we store a profit “snapshot” containing: order number, order date, currency, line items (SKU, title, quantity, price, allocated discount), product cost at the time of the order, calculated profit and margin, and the order's profit status. We also store per-variant cost records and your calculation preferences (payment fee, packaging cost, shipping cost rules, margin thresholds). All data is scoped to your store and isolated from other merchants.

Data is used solely to calculate and display profit reports inside your Shopify admin and the MarginShield dashboard. It is never used for advertising, profiling, or any purpose other than providing the app's analytics features to you.

Data is stored in a dedicated database accessible only by the app. The application is served over HTTPS (TLS) only. Access to the production environment is restricted to the app operator. We retain your data only while the app is installed.

When you uninstall MarginShield, the app receives an app/uninstalled webhook and stops processing your store. You may request deletion of all data associated with your store at any time by emailing us at support@marginshield.eye4tech.com; we will delete it within 30 days. We also honor Shopify's mandatory data-erasure webhooks (shop/redact) when applicable.

MarginShield runs on infrastructure operated by the app developer and relies on Shopify's Admin API for store data. We do not transfer your data to advertising networks, data brokers, or unrelated third parties.

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
